Faults we see at board level
- Completely dead, with no charge light and no response to the power button.

- Starts only when warm, or only when cold.
- Coffee, tea, water, rain or a spilled drink reaching the keyboard.
- A laptop that worked at first and failed a day or two later.
- Corrosion spreading along a connector or a row of components.
- A machine that was dried out but never cleaned.
How liquid damage is handled
- Power off and do not test. The single worst thing after a spill is repeated attempts to switch the laptop on. Each attempt pushes current through wet or corroded joints.
- The board is removed and cleaned. The workshop strips the machine down and treats the board to remove residue and stop corrosion spreading.
- Damage is assessed. Corroded components, lifted pads and shorted rails are identified under magnification.
- Damaged parts are replaced. Where the damage is contained, components can be replaced and the board brought back. Where a board is badly eaten or a chip is unobtainable, the honest answer is that it is beyond economic repair.
- The board is tested before reassembly. Power rails are checked before the machine is rebuilt, so a fault is not carried into a closed case.
Act fast, and act once. Switch off, unplug, tip the laptop to let liquid run out, do not shake it, do not use a hairdryer, and get it to a bench as soon as you can. Time matters more than any home remedy.

An honest word about expectations
Board work is diagnosis-heavy, so it takes longer and costs more to begin with. It is also the area where a workshop earns its keep, because a saved board turns a dead laptop back into a working one at a fraction of the price of a replacement machine. But there is no way to promise an outcome before the board is on the bench. If a rail is shorted to ground and the fault runs under a large chip, the repair may be impractical, and you will be told that instead of being strung along.
What "beyond economic repair" means
The phrase is not a brush-off. It means the cost of the parts and bench time needed to bring the board back would exceed what the repaired machine is worth to you. Sometimes a single unobtainable chip is the difference between a repair and a replacement. When that happens, the workshop explains which part is the obstacle, so the decision is yours and it is made with the facts in front of you rather than a shrug.
It is also worth saying what board work is good at. A machine that has been written off elsewhere can often be brought back if the fault is contained and the parts can be found, and that is exactly the kind of stubborn job a board-level bench exists to take on.
